Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is willing to put to a referendum the question of creating a free economic zone in Donbas, along with a mutual withdrawal of troops.
Zelensky said this in an interview with Fox News.
“I think the compromise is that we will create a free economic zone, which we already have, and we will have to pull back a few kilometers. That means Russia also has to take small steps back a few kilometers… This free economic zone will have specific rules. Something like a referendum is a way to accept it or not,” the Ukrainian president said.
Recall that under U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, Ukraine is required to withdraw its troops from the remaining part of Donbas, where Russia has not deployed its forces but exercises administrative control.
