Russia says it has no knowledge of the energy ceasefire announced by Trump
12.10.2026 08:02Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Donald Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia came as a surprise to him.
This was reported by journalist Barak Ravid of the American outlet Axios and later confirmed by Zelensky himself.
“Trump’s ceasefire announcement was news to me. If President Trump has agreed on this with Putin, please let us know when the ceasefire will begin. We are ready, and we will accept it,” — Ravid quoted Zelensky as saying.
The Ukrainian leader made clear that he had no information about the moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure announced by the U.S. president. At the same time, Zelensky expressed support for the ceasefire and said he was awaiting details from the American side about exactly what Trump had meant.
Later, Zelensky clarified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had already “received all relevant orders” in connection with the possible energy ceasefire. He called Trump’s statement “good news” that Ukraine supports, but again stressed that he was waiting for “clear details of America’s dialogue with Russia.”
The Kremlin had not confirmed its agreement to an energy ceasefire with Ukraine at the time of publication.
