Koretsky: Ukraine risks losing around €25.5 billion in international financing
15.09.2026 05:32Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied US President Donald Trump’s claim that “Kyiv agreed not to strike Russian energy facilities.”
The relevant comments appeared on Zelensky’s Telegram channel.
The Ukrainian president did not directly confirm Trump’s information. Instead, he outlined a condition: Kyiv is ready to stop strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure and shipping if the Russian side does the same.
“If partners are ready to ensure a genuine commitment from Russia not to strike our power grid, other energy facilities, critical infrastructure, or food supply routes, then we are, of course, ready to ensure a corresponding absence of our strikes. We expect concrete proposals from partners,” Zelensky said.
He also added that he is not sure “whether Russia is interested in honoring any agreements.”
Later, in his evening address, Zelensky made clear once again that the agreement on limiting strikes that Trump had spoken of does not exist — at least as he understands it. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief clarified that “there is currently a specific proposal from the United States on a mutual cessation of strikes on critical infrastructure,” and repeated: Kyiv can agree to it if Moscow takes a similar step.
Earlier, Trump had urged Zelensky to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries. In addition, Zelensky had stated that Kyiv was being pushed toward agreement formats that would assure Russia Ukraine would never join NATO.
