The Rada Committee approved Zelensky’s draft law on the demobilization of conscripts
February 23, 2024The President of Ukraine stated that Ukraine plans to make a new attempt to reclaim territories from Russia this year. The previous counteroffensive in the summer of 2023 ended with huge losses of soldiers and military equipment, followed by a retreat of Ukrainian troops. Now, with the Ukrainian army experiencing a shortage of personnel and ammunition, such a plan is even less feasible. Zelensky announced his plans in an interview with Fox News.
“Defense is task number one. Continuing our successful history on the Black Sea – we will do it. I won’t go into details, but they, the Russians, will get surprises. The South is important. Defense in the east, where they have over 200,000 soldiers, is also very important. And, of course, we will be preparing for a new counteroffensive, a new operation. Of course, I’m not saying we will just stand still. It depends on many things,” said the president.
He noted that even defense against the Russian Federation is a significant challenge and struggle because the forces are not equal. The United States is not providing any assistance to Ukraine yet, and Europe is unable to meet the needs of the Ukrainian army. Meanwhile, a new harsh wave of mobilization also does not bring success. Many Ukrainian men resist mobilization and flee the battlefield at the first opportunity.
