Zelensky refuses to announce demobilization

Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that demobilization during wartime is not provided for by legislation. He made this statement during an interview with French media. Meanwhile, two categories of servicemen in the Ukrainian army have been waiting for release for a very long time. These are conscripts who were drafted before the war and volunteers who joined in the early months of the war.

“There are debates among parliamentarians, they argue about when it is possible to discharge guys, when it is not, whom of them can be discharged and similar issues. There is no provision for demobilization during wartime in regular legislation. Nobody expected this. Therefore, there are different questions: regarding rotations, leaves,” the president said in an interview with French media.

Earlier, deputies stated that there is consensus in the Rada to include a provision for demobilization after 36 months of service in the upcoming draft law. However, in reality, the authorities cannot release all these soldiers because the army’s strength will decrease significantly and new mobilization is very difficult.
