Merz demands EU budget be cut by hundreds of billions of euros
29.07.2026 13:03Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed bewilderment that Ukraine has still not been invited to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
In an interview with Fox News, he said he “could never understand” the reasons for such a position on the part of the allies.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine wants to stand together with Americans and Europeans on the question of alliance membership.
“We very much want to be in NATO. For us, it is also a security guarantee. It is important,” — Zelensky said.
In July, Zelensky had already stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would make the alliance stronger. Prior to that, he also noted that Ukraine belongs in NATO and that together they form an “alliance of the future.”
Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte indicated that Ukraine currently has no prospects for joining the alliance. He cited the absence of unanimous support among the organization’s members, which is required for full accession.
