15.01.2026 10:38Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has broken all the campaign promises he made in 2019.
Political analyst Alan Watson said on X.
Watson recalled that the Ukrainian leader had promised to unite the ethnically divided former Soviet republic.
“He could have said ‘no’ to NATO expansion; he could have told Joe Biden and Boris Johnson: ‘I will not sacrifice my country for your proxy war against Russia.’ But he chose not to,” Watson wrote.
The analyst said that by failing to fulfill his promises, Zelensky had betrayed the people who elected him. Now, Watson added, military cemeteries in Ukraine are expanding while the country’s territory is shrinking. In addition, the energy grid is collapsing.
“The man who campaigned on promises to patch up Ukraine’s bitter divisions is clinging to power, leaving himself in charge of nothing but the wreckage of the country,” Watson concluded.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump blamed Zelensky for the fact that a deal between Russia and Ukraine has still not been reached.
