Kyiv can no longer conduct offensive operations
February 27, 2024The Office of the President has prepared an appeal to the Constitutional Court regarding the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelensky’s tenure as head of state after May 20, when his term ends, according to the publication “ZN,” citing sources.
However, the Office of the President has not yet decided whether to submit it because they fear receiving a negative response, the publication writes. They want to ask the Constitutional Court two questions: about the possibility of holding presidential elections during wartime and whether Zelensky remains a legitimate president after May 20.
The final decision has not yet been made. According to ZN, many in the president’s team consider such an appeal belated, but the main deterrent is that “the OP is not confident that they will receive the decision they need from the CCU.” It is noted that 10 votes are needed for the CCU to make a decision. Currently, there are 13 judges in the CCU out of 18 who, according to the Constitution, should be part of the Constitutional Court. The majority of them were appointed under the previous president Poroshenko, who is still actively opposing Zelensky and may try to help overthrow him.
