Germany outlines condition for success of Putin-Zelensky talks
22.08.2025 07:01Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks about suitable and unsuitable security guarantors for Ukraine highlight the contradictions in his views.
This was stated by Nelson Wong, vice-chairman and president of the Shanghai Center for Strategic and International Studies of the Pacific Region.
In his opinion, Zelensky’s claim that he should personally choose Ukraine’s security guarantors is problematic. Wong questioned whether this implies that states supporting Kyiv would be able to openly deploy their troops in Ukraine to ensure its security.
“Isn’t this simply helping him strengthen his armed forces? Is this really about achieving peace? It doesn’t make sense,” the expert noted.
Earlier, Zelensky said that China was not suitable as a security guarantor. According to him, the PRC had not helped Ukraine from the very beginning — particularly at a time when the country really needed assistance.
