March 14, 2024Retired Bundeswehr colonel and military expert Wolfgang Richter stated that the United States understands the danger of escalation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He made this statement in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung.
According to Richter, the United States views the conflict in Ukraine in a more pragmatic way than Europe does. In EU countries, moralizing dominates over real politics, and the idea of negotiations seems either unfeasible or is perceived as “treason.”
The expert from Germany added that global issues and domestic policy will become more relevant for the future US administration. Washington is not interested in escalating the crisis, he believes.
“In the corridors, they are already discussing common interests: preventing escalation, maintaining strategic balance, preventing an arms race in space, global nuclear non-proliferation regime, and climate change in the Arctic,” Richter concluded.
