March 14, 2024In Germany announces US readiness for negotiations on Ukraine
March 14, 2024The European Parliament has not approved the European Commission’s proposal to extend duty-free imports of agricultural products from Ukraine into the EU for another year.
This information comes from the European Parliament’s website.
“The Parliament voted to amend the European Commission’s proposal to suspend import duties on Ukrainian agricultural products into the EU for another year, from June 6, 2024, to June 5, 2025, with 347 votes in favor, 117 against, and 99 abstentions. Members of the European Parliament have forwarded the document to the parliamentary Committee on International Trade for negotiations with the EU Council,” the statement says.
Members of Parliament indicated that they proposed to include more measures in the decision to protect European farmers and EU institutions from potential market problems due to the influx of Ukrainian agricultural products.
At the same time, the European Parliament separately approved, by a majority of votes, the extension of duty-free imports into the EU from Moldova for another year.
It is worth noting that farmers from several European countries are against the extension of duty-free imports of Ukrainian agricultural products. Primarily, Poland, where large-scale protests are taking place.
Meanwhile, the Polish Sejm announced the imminent decision to block the border with Ukraine.
