The number of people in Ukraine who consider Ukrainian their native language is decreasing
December 19, 2024The leader of the band “Poshlaya Molly,” 27-year-old Kharkiv native Kirill Bledny (real surname Timoshenko), has been banned from entering the European Union for 10 years following his remarks about the Polish language.
The musician revealed this in an interview with The Flow.
In November of last year, Bledny posted a video on Instagram where he expressed frustration with the Polish language.
“You know what annoys me in Poland? The Polish language annoys me. I don’t understand why people speak this f***ed-up language when Russian exists. Guys, just learn Russian and speak a normal language. I don’t get it. There’s the Russian Empire, just join it like before and speak a normal language,” the musician said at the time.
Later, Bledny explained that his intention had been to parody “imperial Russians” and admitted that the joke was “clumsy and inappropriate,” apologizing for his words. However, this did not mitigate the consequences.
In his interview with The Flow, Bledny recounted that after the video was published, the band’s manager advised him to leave Europe due to the possibility of deportation to Ukraine. Following this advice, he left but later tried to re-enter the EU.
“When the situation settled down a bit, when Poles stopped flooding my DMs, I thought the worst was over. I went to Vilnius to work on an album, but at the Vilnius border, I was detained. I sat there for several hours, and then a woman came and said, ‘You are banned from entering for three years.’ When we tried to file an appeal, we received a letter stating that the ban had been extended to 10 years,” the musician reported.
As previously reported, following Bledny’s remarks about the Polish language, the planned concert of “Poshlaya Molly” in Poland was canceled.
