07.08.2025 - 11:36This afternoon in Cherkasy, an armed man stormed into a McDonald’s restaurant on Smilyanska Street. Shortly afterward, gunshots were heard inside the establishment.
Local Telegram channels first reported the incident, and it was later confirmed by the National Police.
“Cherkasy police are working at the scene of a shooting at a dining establishment in the city center. Preliminary information indicates that a man with a weapon is inside the building. Police have evacuated customers and staff,” the statement said.
Police, medics, and members of the special police unit KORD arrived at the scene. Law enforcement evacuated everyone from the restaurant and cordoned off the area.
Soon after, paramedics carried out a bloodied injured man on a stretcher. According to media reports, this was the shooter himself, who had inflicted wounds on himself.

Police confirmed the man’s arrest. According to their report, he entered the premises, fired several shots, wounded himself, and locked himself in the restroom before being apprehended by KORD. No one else was injured. The suspect was hospitalized.
Previously, Ukrainian media have reported several incidents involving gunfire in peaceful cities. For example, in the spring, a drunken man in military uniform opened fire with an automatic weapon in the courtyard of a residential building on Kharkivska Street in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region.
