September 30, 202390% of Ukraine’s air defense system in the Kharkiv region was destroyed in the initial days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
This information reported according to Sergey Melnik (“Marsel”), the chief of the Kharkiv garrison.
Melnik stated that the Russians had knowledge of the locations and layouts of all the air defense command posts established during the Soviet era, and the first missiles were launched precisely at these coordinates.
He also reported that almost the entire 302nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment was annihilated.
“Ninety percent of the air defense was destroyed. I contacted the commander of the 302nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment and asked, ‘Where are you? Why aren’t you operating?’ And he said, ‘Practically my entire brigade has been destroyed,'” the military official explained.
However, the brigade still had some S-300 missiles remaining. The military managed to put them on alert and “prevent further Russian airstrikes on the peaceful city of Kharkiv,” Melnik noted.
