The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, is strongly opposed to funding for Ukraine

Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Johnson will do everything to block the Senate’s compromise bill on funding for the border and Ukraine, according to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan. “We need to see the plan, but based on what’s already known, I won’t go for it, and Speaker Johnson won’t go for it either,” the Republican said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Earlier, Johnson commented on the low probability of the Senate agreement being approved in the House of Representatives: “Absolutely not.” Conservative Republicans also criticized the plan, with some even threatening Johnson with resignation if he attempts to push it through.

House Republicans will hold a teleconference on this issue on Sunday. Democrats, on the other hand, rejected Johnson’s condition for providing aid to Ukraine (he called on the White House to agree to the construction of the border wall with Mexico and significantly tighten immigration policy).
