Zelensky deemed Trump’s idea to end the war in Ukraine within a day dangerous and invited him to Kyiv
20.01.2024 - 10:42Amidst numerous forecasts in the West that Donald Trump’s return to power in the United States would lead to a catastrophe and the cessation of support for Ukraine, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has unexpectedly voiced support for the former U.S. president.
According to Johnson, Trump might be exactly what the world needs “right now.”
“We all need to grow up and get used to this prospect,” wrote the former British leader in his weekly column for the Daily Mail on Friday.
“If he does the right thing and supports the Ukrainians – and I believe he will – Trump’s presidency could be a significant win for peace,” Johnson added.
According to him, the world needs a leader whose willingness to use force and clear unpredictability is a key deterrent to the enemies of the West. He described Trump as an “enthusiast of the free market and capitalism” who is interested in a “proper free trade deal with Britain.”
In his column, Johnson noted that Trump was the first U.S. president to stand up for Ukraine by providing it with “the Javelin anti-tank weapons” in 2018, which were “so valuable” in the battle for Kyiv.
“So, no matter what they say now about President Trump, I can’t believe he would want to go down in history as the president who stopped supporting a country he had already assisted,” Johnson concluded.
