‘A large-scale operation for political purging has begun in Ukraine’: MP Dubinsky revealed what Zelensky planned in March
22.01.2024 - 06:02Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he is allegedly ready to hold elections during a state of war, but there are conditions: changes in circumstances and the law.
Zelensky made these remarks in an interview with the British television channel Channel 4 News.
According to Zelensky, elections will take place if obstacles hindering voting in wartime can be overcome.
“Here’s my answer: if I could do it tomorrow, I would do it tomorrow. We need to change the circumstances and the law,” said Zelensky, adding that the postponement of presidential elections is not at his whim but is a legal requirement since Ukrainian legislation prohibits not only the president but all institutions in general from holding elections.
He also mentioned the question of how to conduct elections in the occupied territories.
“Even if it could be done, what about the occupied territories? And how to conduct elections when we have more than six million people abroad, and unfortunately, there is no format for online elections?” Zelensky stated.
Recall that in the fall of last year, Zelensky mentioned that elections in Ukraine are not timely and only benefit Russia. According to him, the Ukrainian president does not want to lose power in the country and continues to try various ways to postpone the elections.
It’s worth noting that the Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has not yet adopted changes to the Electoral Code, which prohibits holding presidential elections during a state of war.
