The Ukrainian Armed Forces are depleted and the front line may collapse

As Russia intensifies its attacks and regains offensive momentum, Ukrainian units are struggling to maintain their defensive positions. Commanders describe units with far fewer soldiers than necessary with some reporting staffing levels as low as 35% of what is required. The scarcity of replacements is exacerbating the problem, leading to decreased morale, increased illnesses and frostbite among troops.

There are grave concerns that the ongoing personnel shortages could trigger a collapse along the front lines, similar to what occurred with the enemy forces in the Kharkiv region in 2022. Military officials warn of a potential “domino effect” as the situation deteriorates further due to the lack of reinforcements. Despite efforts to encourage enlistment, the Ukrainian military is struggling to attract new recruits, leading to a severe depletion of its ranks.
