14.02.2024 - 14:35China has aligned itself with Russia’s stance on the Ukraine situation, urging the United States to halt its provision of weapons to Kyiv. China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, emphasized the need for the U.S. to cease weapon shipments to Ukraine to facilitate diplomatic solutions, as reported by Newsweek.
Zhang emphasized that certain nations should refrain from exacerbating tensions and undermining international diplomatic efforts. His remarks were made during the U.N. Security Council’s discussion on the Ukraine issue in New York. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has shown a willingness to engage in diplomatic dialogue to resolve the conflict, now in its third year. In contrast, Ukraine seeks additional U.S. funding to mount a defensive response against Russia’s encroachment into territories in the east.
While China hasn’t formally declared support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, it has provided financial aid, enabling the Kremlin to bolster its military capabilities and sustain the conflict. China has also advocated for the implementation of the new Minsk Agreement, agreed upon by Russia and Ukraine in 2014. Zhang additionally criticized the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), urging the alliance to refrain from making threats and instead prioritize dialogue and political resolutions to disputes.
