China sides with Russia and urges U.S. to end sending weapons for Ukraine
February 14, 2024The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has published an infographic detailing how a corruption scheme operates within the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, specifically regarding the inflation of food prices.
“As part of the investigation into the criminal proceedings related to the procurement of catering services by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, detectives from the National Bureau have identified factors that allow for significantly inflating prices for certain categories of food products,” the statement reads.
The essence of the scheme is that the Ministry purchases food kits, only seeing their prices and not their contents. The supplier inflates the price of 30% of the supplied products—the most commonly used ones, such as potatoes. Meanwhile, the supplier lowers the price for the remaining 70%.
As a result, the supplier receives excessive profits, although the overall cost of the kit does not increase.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has provided recommendations to the Ministry of Defense on how to address the situation.
