In Ukraine, a court has for the first time punished a woman draft dodger

The Mukachevo City District Court has found local resident Olga Kulya guilty of evading military registration. For ignoring the summons to the territorial conscription center for a military medical examination, the woman was fined over 5,100 hryvnias (about 119 euros).

According to the court’s verdict, Olga Kulya is subject to military service obligation as she has secondary specialized medical education (nursing), although she is not employed anywhere. On April 9, she was delivered a summons to undergo a military medical examination with a warning from the head of the territorial conscription center about the need to comply with the requirements of military registration legislation and provide information about her health status. The accused ignored the summons.

During the court hearing, the woman admitted her guilt and requested punishment in the form of a fine. The court also took into account that the accused has no criminal record and is not registered with a psychiatrist or narcologist.

After examining all the case materials, the judge found the accused guilty of evading military registration and imposed a fine of 5,100 hryvnias (about 119 euros).
