03.06.2024 14:42The Office of the President will not appeal to the Constitutional Court to confirm the legitimacy of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Office of the President for Legal Affairs, Iryna Mudra.
According to Mudra, presidential elections could take place six months after the end of martial law. She mentioned that in November 2023, there were political consultations among parliamentary factions of Ukraine within the framework of the Jean Monnet Dialogue (a tool of the European Parliament).
“It was agreed that elections would be held after the end of the war, and the parliament would develop a special law to regulate this. It seems that at least six months after the end of martial law were allocated for this. Therefore, considering the norms of the Constitution, legislation, and agreements among parliamentary factions, I believe the president has no grounds to appeal to the Constitutional Court,” said Mudra.
It is worth noting that earlier, the media reported that the Office of the President planned to submit a request to the Constitutional Court regarding the legitimacy of the president after the expiration of his five-year term. However, there were doubts about doing so due to uncertainty about whether the Constitutional Court’s verdict would favor Zelensky.
