In Vinnytsia, a military man shot his wife and wounded her friend, then committed suicide

In a residential area of Vinnytsia, a 23-year-old military man, during an argument with his 18-year-old wife, grabbed a gun and started shooting at her and her 19-year-old friend, who was also in the apartment. He then fled the scene.

This information comes from a press release by the Vinnytsia Region Police Department.

“On the morning of June 13, a report of the incident was received by the police from medics. The injured 19-year-old girl managed to call an ambulance but was unable to open the door for the doctors and police, so the law enforcement officers had to enter the third-floor apartment through the window. At the scene, police found the body of another victim, also with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.

In the apartment, police and medics found the injured 19-year-old woman, who was hospitalized in serious condition, and the body of the 18-year-old wife of the shooter.

Later, the body of the military man was found by criminal investigators on the bank of the Southern Bug River. In a deserted riverside area of the regional center, he shot himself in the head.

The weapon used in the crime—a pistol, along with shell casings and other physical evidence—was seized.

A criminal case has been opened under part 2, article 115, clause 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. All circumstances and motives of the criminal offense are being established, and investigative actions are ongoing.
