03.07.2024 - 12:54In Ukraine, 45% of citizens are willing to accept the loss of territories captured by Russia in exchange for the “freedom to choose” NATO and EU membership, the preservation of the army, and independence.
This information comes from a survey conducted by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).
Additionally, 26% would prefer to regain the occupied territories but agree to demilitarization, a neutral status, and the impossibility of joining the EU and NATO.
29% are uncertain about the best course of action.
Furthermore, 47% of Ukrainians either fully or partially support direct negotiations between the US and Russia regarding Ukraine without Kyiv’s participation.
49% oppose such a scenario, making the opinion nearly split.
Previously, it was reported that Europeans are skeptical about Ukraine’s victory and believe the war could last another five years. Between a third and half of those surveyed think the war will end with a peaceful settlement.
Additionally, media published survey data indicating that the number of Ukrainians favoring ending the war through compromises with Russia is growing. 58% of respondents said that the Ukrainian government should not make compromises in negotiations with Russia and should continue fighting as long as possible, down from 80% in May 2022.
