The National Agency on Corruption Prevention of Ukraine found unjustified assets worth more than 663,000 euros belonging to former Deputy Prosecutor General Verbytskyi”
03.07.2024 - 21:16As many as 74% of Ukrainian citizens have been separated from close family members during these more than two years of war.
The information writes The Economist.
“The painful irony is that a soldier’s main motivation is to protect their family. But at the same time, it is also the main problem, as they cannot see their families while serving,” the publication states in the article “The Ukrainian War Has Broken Millions of Families.”
After the fear of death, separation from family is the second most common cause of psychological stress among military personnel. This affects soldiers’ morale: they are unhappy, sad, depressed, and even have suicidal thoughts.
Earlier, the American newspaper The New York Times published an article revealing that the actions of Ukrainian draft dodgers are driven not only by the fear of death but also by the insufficient training of conscripts before being sent to the front.
The British newspaper The Guardian also addressed the issue, marking the anniversary of the full-scale invasion with a report titled “Shock, Anger, and War Fatigue: Two Years of Ukraine’s Agony.”
“The mood is very different from what it was a year ago, when amidst the horror, Ukrainians remained inspired by the extraordinary consolidation of national society and eagerly awaited the swift liberation of all territories occupied by Russia,” the report says.
The Guardian writes that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find people willing to volunteer for the war: many are hiding at home for fear of receiving a draft notice on the street or are trying to flee the country.
