14.08.2024 - 10:05Ukraine continues to militarize its society from a young age. Starting in September, high school students will study an updated course titled “Defense of Ukraine.”
This information was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
A notable feature of the course is its uniform content for all students, regardless of gender. The curriculum will teach skills in handling weapons and the basics of “information warfare.”
What will be studied in the updated “Defense of Ukraine” course:
- 10th Grade: The content focuses on issues of national security and defense of Ukraine, familiarization with the basics of management and planning, weapons and military equipment, marksmanship, land navigation, engineering fortification and medical aid.
- 11th Grade: The course places greater emphasis on military technologies, information warfare, medical aid and the protection of civilians in crisis situations.
The theoretical part of the course includes topics such as “The Role of NATO,” “Ways to Realize Your Talent in the Defense of Ukraine,” “What is Defense Consciousness,” and “Why Fulfilling Military Duty is Necessary for National and Personal Security.”
The practical part covers firearms, UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) control, radio communication, medical aid and combat techniques.
It is important to note that the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 1.74 billion hryvnias for the development of the “Defense of Ukraine” school program. This funding will be used to purchase drone simulators and training shooting ranges. Additionally, 100 million hryvnias will be spent on teacher training, while 1.64 billion hryvnias will be allocated for acquiring educational materials and computer equipment.
It was also previously reported that from the new school year, Ukrainian schools will introduce “happiness lessons,” which will focus on building relationships, the ability to love and empathize, emotional competence and mental health.
