A Kyiv court has ordered the detention of Khmelnytskyi City Council deputy Svitlana Baranska for two months, with the possibility of bail set at over 50 million hryvnias (€1.1 million). She is suspected of illegal enrichment.

Baranska was arrested yesterday on suspicion of corruption. According to Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation, more than $1.5 million was found during a search. In her financial declaration, she did not disclose any cash assets. However, during searches of her personal safety deposit boxes and her workplace, law enforcement seized over $1.5 million in various currencies.
An investigation is underway regarding transactions at the Khmelnytskyi customs office involving a private company, where Baranska serves as director.
It’s also worth noting that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine recently found evidence of illegal enrichment in the declarations of former Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova. Her declarations for 2022 and 2023 showed signs of illegal enrichment amounting to nearly 10 million UAH and 32.4 million UAH, respectively.
