21.10.2024 - 22:40The Trypilska Thermal Power Plant in the Kyiv region will not participate in this heating season due to significant damage.
This was reported in an article by the German newspaper “Deutsche Welle”, which covered the situation at the Ukrainian energy facility.
The power plant was destroyed in a massive Russian missile attack in April and remains non-operational as the heating season approaches. Footage from the site shows that the roof of the power plant’s machine hall was collapsed by the strike. Since then, surviving pipe systems and control cabinets have been exposed to the elements. In some areas, fragments of broken pipes and concrete rubble are still scattered.
“We definitely won’t be able to restore all capacities. Today, we are not just talking about restoration but essentially building a new power station from scratch. This is real terrorism,” stated Evhenii Harkavyi, the head of “Centrenergo”.
Before the April attack, the Trypilska power plant supplied energy to the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy regions. According to UN forecasts, during the winter, households in Ukraine could experience power outages lasting between 4 to 18 hours per day.
Additionally, with the start of the heating season, further Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure are anticipated. Earlier, authorities also reported that the Burshtynska Thermal Power Plant is beyond repair after Russian shelling.
