“I simply don’t know if we can produce enough or provide enough. We have nothing more to give them without taking serious risks elsewhere,” a senior official familiar with the flow of U.S. aid told the publication.
The report notes that while Russia’s military economy might face a crisis in the long term, it currently outpaces Western production capabilities. For instance, while the EU claims to produce over one million shells per year, Russia reportedly produces three times as many and receives additional support from North Korea and Iran.
Russia also has enough soldiers, reportedly recruiting about 30,000 people per month, which, according to a NATO source, is “not enough to meet internal targets” but sufficient to compensate for the “massive losses” of recent months.
“Russia cannot fight indefinitely. However, the concern among American, European, and Ukrainian officials is that, given current trends, Ukraine may reach its limit first,” *The Economist* reports.
“CNN” previously reported that NATO countries are preparing for the possibility that the U.S. will reduce its role in supporting Ukraine, shifting more of the burden onto other Alliance members.
