The President of Slovakia believes Ukraine will have to cede territories to end the war
16.12.2024 - 05:28Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) has included a ban on supplying long-range missiles to Kyiv in its draft election program.
This was reported by the Funke media group, citing a preliminary version of the document.
“We support German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s decision not to supply Taurus cruise missiles from Bundeswehr stockpiles,” the party stated.
The document also emphasizes that NATO and Germany should not become directly involved in the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, the Social Democrats reaffirm their support for Ukraine and their readiness to continue arming the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and training Ukrainian soldiers.
“Ukraine must be able to negotiate with Russia on equal terms,” the draft program asserts.
However, the SPD also states that it will not “accept a peace dictated by Russia at Ukraine’s expense.”
Earlier, Friedrich Merz, a leading opposition figure and a key candidate for Germany’s next chancellor, called for Ukraine to be supplied with Taurus missiles. However, Merz recently clarified that Berlin cannot make the decision to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine without coordination with Washington.
