17.12.2024 - 12:34In February 2022, the possibility of relocating the Ukrainian government to London was considered, a proposal put forward at the time by Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vadym Prystaiko.
The former ambassador disclosed this in an interview with Ukrainian media when asked whether such an option had been discussed.
“We proactively wanted to make a proposal to the government at that time about possibly finding a place where we could continue (governing the country – Ed.). We were not talking about a government in exile, but about continuing the work of the government,” the diplomat said.
According to Prystaiko, his proposal was made in early February, when he accompanied then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during his visit to Kyiv.
Earlier, former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba revealed that, prior to Russia’s invasion, Western officials suggested President Volodymyr Zelensky record a farewell video. Kuleba also stated that U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris advised Zelensky to “prepare to form a government in exile and explore military solutions to prepare Ukraine for a partisan war.”
Meanwhile, the Spanish newspaper *El Mundo*, citing sources in Ukrainian diplomatic circles, recently reported that the West is preparing a “golden exile” for Volodymyr Zelensky in London after active hostilities in Ukraine come to an end.
