10.01.2025 - 06:36In Zakarpattia, the development of a new salt deposit, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had promised would supply all of Ukraine, has been put on hold.
This was reported by Myroslav Biletskyi, the head of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration.
“There are issues with quarrelling owners who have blocked each other’s work, and now they are stuck in court. It’s an extremely unfortunate situation. We can’t intervene because it concerns their corporate rights. Of course, we are trying to mediate and unblock the operations. It’s a complicated story. Our current task is to ensure nothing happens to the mine,” Biletskyi explained.
He noted that the salt reserves at the Tereblyanske deposit are significant and could meet the country’s needs, but no extraction is currently taking place.
Previously, Ukraine’s main salt supplier was “Artemsil,” located in Soledar, but it was lost two years ago.
In the summer of 2023, it was reported that the first salt was extracted in Zakarpattia, allegedly enough to fully meet Ukraine’s needs.
A few days later, plans to develop the Tereblyanske deposit in Zakarpattia were announced.
