Only 12% of men who evaded virtual draft notices have been fined
20.01.2025 - 14:11A provision of the law tightening mobilization, concerning basic military training, will allow the mobilization of 18-year-old students who undergo such training during their studies and are then expelled.
This was stated by MP Dmytro Razumkov.
“Starting next year, basic military training will be conducted in universities during the first year of study. For example, if a person is expelled after that, they can be mobilized at 19 years old or even at 18 and a half,” the MP said.
He also pointed out that Volodymyr Zelensky has not signed a law passed by parliament for four months, which prohibits the mobilization of men aged 18-25 who were previously classified as partially fit before the war.
Razumkov stated that mobilization from the age of 18 is already partially underway, even without a legislative reduction in the draft age: men aged 18-25 who are classified as partially fit are being conscripted. According to him, an attempt was made to remove the provision for mobilizing such individuals during the vote on the law to tighten mobilization, but it was ultimately pushed through.
He added that the president “lied or does not know” when he rejected U.S. calls to lower the mobilization age.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense stated that the basic military training course for students would last 300 academic hours. Of these, 90 hours would be devoted to theory, and 210 hours to practical training.
The ministry also confirmed that students who fail basic military training may be expelled from their universities.
