13.02.2025 14:21European Union (EU) countries need to sober up from their “military madness” after the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart, Donald Trump.
This opinion was expressed by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on his Facebook page.
“No one called the European Union. No one called the President of the European Council, the European Commission, or the European Parliament. The EU must quickly sober up from military madness and finally understand that it needs to be independent in its views and positions to survive. Otherwise, the bloc will move toward a deep crisis,” the Slovak leader stated.
Fico also pointed out that after his 90-minute conversation with Putin, the U.S. president “at least” called Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and “informed him that something as unimaginable as democratic elections awaited him.”
Earlier reports indicated that Trump’s February 12 phone conversation with Putin “frightened” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and several other top European politicians. According to *Politico*, EU officials were “stunned” by the call, as it casts doubt on their entire strategy of providing maximum military and economic support to Ukraine.
