“Whatever we can get”: Trump stated that he wants compensation from Ukraine for the aid provided
23.02.2025 17:00Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is ready to leave his post if it brings peace.
He made this statement during a press conference.
In response to a question about whether the head of state is prepared to step down as president, Zelensky replied that he is willing to relinquish his position in exchange for peace.
“If peace comes to Ukraine, and if you really need me to leave my post, then I am ready. I am also ready to exchange this post for NATO; I do not intend to be in power for decades,” Zelensky declared.
It is noted that he is currently focused on Ukraine’s security today, not in 20 years.
“I believe that NATO is the cheapest option, and that’s the truth. In any case, regardless of who supports it or not, this topic is on the table. And as part of security guarantees and negotiations, it will also be present. I don’t know how these negotiations will end, but this issue will definitely be discussed,” the president said.
“Here it is important for all of us to understand – this is not a negotiation table to which Ukraine is invited. This is our table because the war is continuing in Ukraine. We are the ones inviting European leaders, because the war is being fought on our land. We are part of this continent,” he emphasized.
In addition, Zelensky stated that his approval rating is 65%. He commented on Trump’s claim that only 4% of voters support the Ukrainian president.
“The 4% of Ukrainians who support me is a signal spread by the Russians. That is why I speak of a direct dialogue between me and Trump. The 4% versus the actual 65% of today’s trust figures – that is a significant difference,” the president said.
It should be noted that just days ago, Zelensky himself referred to a KMIS poll and stated that his rating was 57%. However, a poll by the Rating group later came out with a figure of 65%.
Both of these polls were published immediately after Trump called Zelensky a “dictator” and urged him to hold elections.
Meanwhile, the British magazine The Economist assessed that Zelensky is losing popularity in Ukraine and is losing to ex-Chief of the General Staff Zaluzhny in the polls.
According to a survey by the Ukrainian company Socis, less than 16% of respondents would vote for Zelensky in a presidential election, while 27.2% would vote for Zaluzhny.
