03.03.2025 - 18:35Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to block the upcoming European Union summit on Ukraine due to Kyiv’s decision to halt gas transit to Europe.
Fico demands that EU leaders call on Ukraine to resume gas transit through its territory to Slovakia and further to other EU countries.
Earlier, the Slovak prime minister declared that Slovakia would neither provide financial nor military support to Ukraine. He also warned that he would block any EU summit decisions on Ukraine unless they included a call for a ceasefire.
Additionally, Fico threatened to cut off Ukraine’s gas imports from Europe. This comes as Ukraine has been actively importing gas from Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland due to shortages in its domestic market.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that the EU summit will discuss a large-scale financial aid package for Ukraine worth hundreds of billions of euros, though implementing such a project would take years.
