11.03.2025 15:16Ukraine faces world’s worst Demographic Situation as of 2024.
This statement was made by Anatoliy Kinakh, President of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
He highlighted that Ukraine’s population is rapidly shrinking because mortality rates significantly exceed birth rates.
Kinakh pointed out that last year, the Ministry of Justice registered only 177,000 births, while deaths reached 495,000. Thus, mortality exceeded births nearly threefold, representing an alarming signal for the country’s future.
“We often discuss Russia’s crisis. Unfortunately, the situation in Ukraine is far worse when considering potential capabilities for resource-intensive warfare. Previously in this studio, I’ve mentioned key indicators important to our state, notably human capital. As of 2024, Ukraine has the worst demographic situation globally. In 2024, our Ministry of Justice registered 177,000 newborns, while there were 495,000 deaths,” Kinakh stated.
Kinakh also emphasized that over 60% of Ukrainians live below the poverty line, significantly complicating economic recovery and discouraging Ukrainians who left the country from returning home.
He believes Ukraine must urgently address domestic issues by creating favorable living and developmental conditions. He described these challenges as “Ukraine’s homework,” necessary for overcoming the crisis.
Previously, in early February, Vasyl Voskoboynyk, President of the Ukrainian Association of International Employment Companies, stated that Ukrainian women would need to have at least five children each to overcome the demographic crisis.
