Finnish President Stubb called the conversation between Putin and Trump a step toward peace

The phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump on March 18 was a positive step toward a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.

This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Helsinki.

“Yesterday’s phone conversation between President Trump and President Putin was a step in the right direction, [a step] toward a full and unconditional ceasefire,” the politician said.

Additionally, the Finnish leader praised the role of the United States in negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, Stubb had stated that Western countries need to intensify efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and increase pressure on Russia.
