11.04.2025 - 17:55The “Servant of the People” parliamentary faction is preparing a new draft law that would strip Vitali Klitschko of the opportunity to remain mayor of Kyiv, Hennadiy Trukhanov – mayor of Odesa, Borys Filatov – mayor of Dnipro, and Andriy Sadovyi – mayor of Lviv.
This was reported on Facebook by former Member of Parliament Oleksandr Chernenko, citing his contacts in the legislature.
According to Chernenko, the “Servants” are gathering votes in support of a bill that would limit the number of terms a city mayor can serve – allowing only two terms for a lifetime, not just two consecutive terms.
“Not two consecutive terms – but two terms total, ever. The initiative seems to be universal, but it primarily targets those who have held local power for a long time: Klitschko in Kyiv, Trukhanov in Odesa, Filatov in Dnipro – the list is long. If they gather enough support for this initiative, we could see a complete reboot of local power in the next municipal elections,” Chernenko wrote.
There has been no official confirmation from Parliament that such a bill is in the works. However, Chernenko attached a screenshot of the draft document to his post.
Last fall, Filatov claimed that an “unprecedented campaign to destroy local self-government” had been launched against the Dnipro city council.
