15.04.2025 - 13:01The United States has declined to support a draft statement from G7 countries condemning Russia’s missile strike on Ukrainian forces in Sumy.
Bloomberg reports this, citing sources.
“President Donald Trump’s administration informed allies that it could not sign the statement condemning the attack, as it is ‘working to preserve space for peace negotiations,’” the report states.
According to the outlet, the United States was the only G7 country that did not back the initiative put forward by Canada, which currently holds the rotating G7 presidency. Without U.S. approval, the statement cannot be adopted in its current form.
The missile strike on central Sumy occurred on April 13. Reports indicate that more than sixty Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel were killed in the attack.
