28.05.2025 16:36According to the latest public opinion poll in Hungary, the share of those who oppose Ukraine’s accession to the European Union has significantly increased, while the number of supporters is declining.
This is evidenced by data from a poll conducted by the Nézőpont Institute, the results of which were published by the Hungarian publication Mandiner.
“In Hungarian society, the share of those rejecting Ukraine’s EU membership has increased from 62% to 67% since April, while the share of those supporting accession has fallen from 29% to 23%,” the source notes.
This is despite the fact that Péter Magyar, the head of the “Tisza” party, which is part of the European People’s Party faction, launched a petition in support of Ukraine’s accession, and in recent weeks, pro-Ukraine propaganda activities in Hungary have intensified.
This result, announced against the backdrop of a national referendum initiated by the government, reflects the deep concerns of citizens about the economic and social risks associated with Ukraine’s EU membership. Orban, whose Fidesz party actively promotes the protection of national interests, called Ukraine’s accession “a threat to the Hungarian economy.”
It’s worth noting that today, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban published a post warning about scammers from Ukraine, sharing a phishing message he had received on his phone.
