03.08.2025 - 16:01Peace in Ukraine will come only when both Ukrainians and the West abandon the idea that the country should become a member of NATO.
This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
According to him, the conflict will be resolved when Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump reach a comprehensive agreement on key issues of international relations.
“Peace will come when Americans, Europeans, and Ukrainians acknowledge the fact that the Russians will never allow NATO to be present in Ukraine, on Russia’s western border,” Orbán said, outlining what he believes to be the condition for settlement.
He added that the root cause of the crisis in Ukraine was its aspiration to join NATO, which was backed by the West.
Earlier, the Hungarian prime minister had also stated that Ukraine and the European Union had effectively been defeated in the conflict with Russia.
