07.08.2025 - 12:32U.S. President Donald Trump suggested yesterday, during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders, that Russian President Vladimir Putin might agree to peace negotiations “if the issue of territorial exchanges is discussed.”
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to earlier reports from other media, participants in the conversation with Trump included: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The American president reportedly told his counterparts that there had been “significant progress” but did not rule out secondary sanctions against Russia’s trading partners. Overall, he expressed a positive outlook on the possibility of peace talks involving the presidents of Russia and Ukraine in the near future.
Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that “territorial issues” would be a key element of any future peace agreement regarding Ukraine.
