18.08.2025 16:01Germany is not physically capable of deploying its troops in Ukraine as part of possible security guarantees.
This was stated by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in a podcast with Table Media.
“The Bundeswehr has already stationed a brigade in Lithuania. Additional deployment of German soldiers in Ukraine would likely be too great a burden for us,” the minister said.
However, in his view, Berlin must play an important role in any potential peace arrangements for Ukraine.
“Ukraine needs security guarantees. The U.S. has made it clear that it is ready to provide them. Now we need to see what can be implemented jointly with the Europeans,” the official noted.
The administration of Poland’s new president, Karol Nawrocki, also spoke out against sending peacekeepers to Ukraine after the war.
“Today we are dealing with the so-called coalition of the willing. We might have forgotten what kind of coalition this was, but it was a coalition of countries ready to send their troops to Ukraine. This is not the best solution. President Karol Nawrocki stated outright: he does not consent to sending Polish soldiers to Ukraine,” said the head of the chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki, in a YouTube podcast Poranny Ring.
It should be recalled that yesterday, the coalition of the willing declared after a meeting that it was prepared to introduce troops into Ukraine once a ceasefire is in place.
Just a few days earlier, London announced that the UK had abandoned the idea of deploying a 30,000-strong contingent to Ukraine to protect ports and key cities.
