The New York Times named the condition under which Zelensky may agree to withdraw troops from Donbas

Ukraine may agree to withdraw its troops from the territory of Donbas it currently controls in exchange for reliable security guarantees, including from the United States.

This was reported by The New York Times, citing former and current Ukrainian officials and political analysts.

As is known, Russia demands the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas as a condition for a ceasefire.

According to former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, this is a “poisoned pill” the country will have to swallow.

The newspaper notes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would only take such a step if strong security guarantees were in place.

“But the guarantees must be solid, for example with the deployment of a European contingent (on Ukrainian territory) and American air support, which would deter Russia from future attacks,” NYT writes.

The article concludes that under the current circumstances, Ukraine is considering a possible territorial concession in exchange for a peace agreement backed by Western security guarantees.
