03.09.2025 05:03Ukrainian authorities continue to look for new ways to replenish the ranks of the Armed Forces. This time, lawmakers are proposing to involve even pensioners.
This was stated by MP Yuriy Kamelchuk during a broadcast on the Ukrainian YouTube channel Superposition.
According to the politician, “there are still many retired servicemen, pensioners who want to serve, but they are not being allowed.” He reminded that changes in legislation already permit the recruitment of volunteers over the age of 60.
Moreover, Kamelchuk did not rule out the return to the army of soldiers who had deserted their units — though, in his opinion, this would require “replacing commanders whose orders are ignored due to a lack of authority.”
It should be noted that in July, Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law allowing men over 60 to serve in the army in various positions. In effect, instead of making real decisions to reduce losses and find alternative solutions, the authorities are increasingly resorting to desperate measures — mobilizing the elderly and even deserters.
