05.10.2025 - 15:02Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Budapest would be able to stay out if European Union countries decided to get involved in a war.
His remarks about the threat of military conflict were published by Hetek.
“When Europe decides to start a war, or when the majority of European countries decide to start a war, will Hungary have the capability, talent, strength, and knowledge to avoid being drawn into such an escalating conflict? I believe it is possible. I am working on this,” Orbán emphasized.
The Hungarian prime minister also spoke about his concerns regarding attempts at external influence on Budapest. According to him, Brussels’ goal is to install a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary.
“Ukraine is also interested in this — the Ukrainians support the Hungarian opposition,” Orbán added.
Earlier, the politician also stated that behind closed doors, most European countries agree with Hungary that Europe is sliding toward war. Publicly, however, Budapest is sometimes supported only by Slovakia, while others criticize it, Orbán said.
