Putin tells Trump: Kyiv’s strikes on Russia will not change the situation on the battlefield
14.06.2026 23:36Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump and announced his intention to meet with him at the G7 summit in France.
Zelensky announced this on his Telegram channel.
According to the Ukrainian president, during today’s phone conversation the two sides discussed in detail questions of peace, the situation at the front, and further diplomatic steps. Zelensky also congratulated Trump on his birthday and briefed him on the latest developments on the battlefield.
The Ukrainian president told his American counterpart that “Ukraine’s positions have strengthened.” Following the conversation, the two sides agreed to continue discussions at the G7 summit.
“We have some good ideas that can help bring peace closer and protect lives,” Zelensky wrote.
Adviser to the Ukrainian president Dmytro Lytvyn clarified that during the call Zelensky and Trump discussed the further course of negotiations and diplomatic steps. The conversation lasted 30–35 minutes and was described as “substantive.”
Earlier, media reported on Kyiv’s expectations from the G7 summit. According to available information, the main task of Zelensky and European leaders is to convince Trump that Russia is faring so poorly at the front that there is no point for the United States to adhere to the “Anchorage agreements” with Putin and push Zelensky toward withdrawing troops from Donbas. Instead, Kyiv and its European allies are hoping to secure support for European terms for ending the war and for stepping up pressure on Moscow.
