20.11.2025 - 20:02On November 18, 2025, the Commercial Court of Volyn Region considered a complaint by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) against the actions of a state bailiff who had begun the procedure of evicting the parish from the Assumption Cathedral in Volodymyr.
This was reported by Suspilne.
The UOC’s lawyer appealed the rulings of the enforcement service, which had resumed compulsory execution of the court decision. In the complaint, the parish asked the court to review the legality of these rulings, including the involvement of the police and the resumption of enforcement measures. The main issues raised concerned the procedure for enforcing the court decision and the access of bailiffs to the church building and the surrounding grounds.
As a result of the hearing, the judge rejected the complaint, finding the actions of the state bailiff to be in accordance with the established procedure. Thus, the measures to evict the parish, which began in October, remain in force.
The Assumption Cathedral in Volodymyr is one of the oldest Orthodox churches in the region and for many years served as the spiritual center of the local UOC community. After the authorities decided to terminate the Church’s right to use the building, judicial and enforcement procedures were launched to transfer the cathedral into state ownership.
Enforcement actions have been ongoing since October 10, 2025, and include restricting parishioners’ access as well as inventorying property. The complaint heard on November 18 concerned precisely the procedure by which these measures are being carried out.
