After the first parts of NABU’s “Midas” investigation into corruption in the president’s inner circle were published, Presidential Office head Andriy Yermak tasked law enforcement agencies controlled by the Office with preparing a notice of suspicion for Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) chief Oleksandr Klymenko.

According to law enforcement sources cited by the outlets, after the “Midas” investigation was released, the head of the Presidential Office continued to pressure and “tune” the security agencies under his influence.

SAPO head Oleksandr Klymenko said at one conference that “Ali Baba is holding meetings and assigning tasks to law enforcement agencies so that they persecute and continue to persecute NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors. This is not a normal situation.”

This happened the same week the Myndych tapes were made public.

According to media sources in anti-corruption bodies, “Ali Baba” is not Andriy Yermak’s call sign on the Myndych recordings.

This nickname for the sake of secrecy is used by the detectives and prosecutors themselves in internal communications when referring to the head of the Presidential Office. In political circles, when they talk about Andriy Borysovych Yermak, they often use an abbreviation based on the first letters of his first name and patronymic — “AB.”

At the end of the first week of Operation “Midas,” according to sources close to the Presidential Office, President Volodymyr Zelensky invited the heads of NABU and SAPO to a meeting.

However, “the conversation did not go well,” notes an influential official familiar with how that meeting unfolded.

Immediately after this attempt at dialogue, Yermak once again tasked security officials with preparing a notice of suspicion for SAPO head Oleksandr Klymenko, sources in law enforcement claim.
